About Us
The New York Rockits Athletes In Action(A.I.A) is a year round organization providing activities for over 300 boys and girls in the NY/NJ metropolitan area. Founded in 1985, we are recognized as a highly valued community resource for our success in youth development.
Based in the Lower East Side of Manhattan, the NY ROCKITS AIA attracts players from ages 9-18 from all five boroughs of New York, and the suburbs of New Jersey. Our program encourages excellence in sports as a way of encouraging excellence in academics. The strength of our organization is not in its basketball but in the quality of character developed within each player. The success of our programs are evident in the number of alumni who have gone on to academic as well as athletic success in college. Graduates have attended prestigious universities such as Harvard, Stanford, Wharton School of Business, Columbia, Cooper Union, and NYU, just to name a few.
The organization promotes a standard of living – through hard work and example. Players have gone on to become Doctors, Investment Bankers, Lawyers, Engineers, Business Owners, and NBA Sports Agents. These past players have set a standard for our future players to shoot for. Our program has also developed two Division I, eight Division II, and 16 Division III players and over 95% of our players attend college.
Through a series fund raising basketball events each year, money is raised in hopes of earning enough to pay for such necessities as practice facilities, tournament/league entry fees, travel expenses, and uniforms.
The New York Rockits Athletes In Action is a registered 501C 3 not-for-profit corporation. comprised of a highly committed, diverse group of professionals, who are dedicated to developing children and teenagers through hard work and determination.
Mission Statement
The New York Rockits Athletes In Action promote athletic development, educational advancement, strength of character, and social interaction for the underserved youths in the community. We accomplish our mission by:
- Providing a fun, healthy & nurturing environment for youths in a team sports atmosphere.
- Teaching the values of sportsmanship, teamwork, and fair play.
- Building their self-esteem and developing their strong moral character.
- Encouraging a respect for individuals – family, friends, teammates, et al.
- Providing a support system that encourages youths to become valuable contributors of their community.
HOW TO HELP
As we continue to expand our youth programs, the financial challenges in order to sustain them must be met. Our goal is to build an endowment so that we can continue to provide today’s youths the opportunities to succeed. Your support will allow our organization the opportunity to affect the lives so many.
Contributions such as monetary, travel miles, and reward points are always welcome. No gift is too small, and any help is much appreciated. All contributions are tax deductible.
